Christianity Jeans a Trend in Sweden

I don’t like wearing jeans and don’t even possess one pair. You may think this is strange as nearly everyone has a pair of jeans these days. The reason is that I always feel comfortable in dresses and have found that wearing jeans make my legs feel hot. I have some lovely dresses but find that the ones with the Tommy Hilfiger label are my favorite. I have different dresses for different occasions. Dresses for everyday use and some really beautiful dresses by Tommy Hilfiger for evening wear. I even have dresses for when i buy a used car for sale, or just a trip around the supermarket.

I had booked a holiday to go to Sweden with a friend of mine. She always wears jeans and can’t understand why I find them so uncomfortable. In my suitcase I packed dresses for during the day and my Tommy Hilfiger ones to wear when I went out at night. My friend didn’t have one dress in her suitcase and we laughed about how she could always borrow one of mine if she needed to. On the other hand, as she pointed out, I could always borrow a pair of her jeans if I got fed up of wearing a dress.

After we arrived at the Hotel and had freshened up we decided to go and look round the shops. We had never been to Stockholm before so it took us a while to find the shops. My friend was particularly interested in buying a pair of Christianity jeans which are now a trend in Sweden. The jeans are flying off the shelves thanks to their trendy tight fit and low price and about 200,000 pairs have been sold since March 2004. However, not everybody likes these jeans and are put off by the logo which is a skull with a cross turned upside down on its forehead. Some buyers have ripped off the labels or even returned the jeans once they realized what the logo represents. One of the owners of a clothing store in Stockholm’s trendy SoFo district said he didn’t think the logo has a deeper meaning and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. It’s just supposed to be a bit of fun, some kind of anti-culture. The jeans are being shipped to Norway, Denmark, Britain, the Netherlands, France and Australia.

Needless to say, all this didn’t put my friend off buying a pair and was highly delighted when she came across a shop where they had got the jeans in stock. That night when we went out for a meal we certainly looked an odd couple. My friend was only too pleased to be wearing her designer jeans with the grinning skull and text saying “Over my Dead Body” for all to see. As for me, I was just as pleased to be wearing one of my favourite Tommy Hilfiger dresses. I had seen enough of the Christianity jeans and certainly wouldn’t be buying a pair for myself in the future. I might not be as trendy as my friend but I wouldn’t swop my Tommy Hilfiger dresses for any of her jeans.
